Sunday 10.25.15 (our sure hope in the patient God)

This Sunday we’ll take a look at 2 Peter 3 and the sure hope that we have in a graciously patient God.

Then Sunday evening during Adult Bible Study, Julie Bridges is starting practice for this year’s Children’s Christmas Program. The date and time of the program itself is still pending (look for it on a Sunday evening in early December) but practice will run each Sunday night leading up to it from 6pm to 7pm in the auditorium. Parents and grandparents are invited to join us for Bible Study in the church library.

Facing Trials with Faith ~ James 1:1-18

We all face times of trial and difficulty in life, we must face these with faith that God is doing something better through them. To face trials with faith:

  • Take joy in what your trials are producing in your life: Christ-likeness (1:1-4)
  • Seek God for wisdom to face trials when the situations seem to overwhelm (1:5-8)
  • Learn to be content in Christ, no matter your circumstance (1:9-11)
  • Look forward to the eternal prize as a source of strength and joy today (1:12)
  • Trust that God is orchestrating the best for your life and flee temptations that say otherwise (1:13-18)

Sunday 10.04.15 (the greatness of corporate worship)

  • Don’t neglect God’s word (22:1-10)
  • Repent and trust God when confronted by his word (22:11-20)
  • Seek to be always reforming–always conforming our lives to God’s word (23:1-27)
  • Trust the greater King, Jesus, who is God’s Word (23:26-27, John 1)

A Faith that Conquers Fear ~ 2 Timothy 4:6-18

We grow afraid when what is before us is too unknown or overwhelming. We need to look beyond the immediate circumstances or an unknown future and trust the God who is in control. A faith that conquers fear:

  • Fights daily to stay focused on Jesus (4:6-8)
  • Celebrates God’s work in others while entrusting him with our enemies (4:9-15)
  • Trusts God to defend, strengthen, and rescue–even in the bleakest circumstances (4:16-18)
