I am weary from my groaning; with my tears I dampen my bed and drench my couch every night.
Psalm 6:6, Christian Standard Bible
You’ll notice as you read through the Psalms that the Holy Spirit, as he inspired David and other writers, did not shy away from the sometimes raw nature of human emotion. Life has its moments where the world seems to press in so hard around us that all we can do is cry, whether in frustration or sorrow.
David felt this as he wrote Psalm 6. He felt the force of his enemies against him and within that he felt the sting of God’s rebuke. He was weary. Life seemed overwhelming. He didn’t know what else to do.
So he cried and he cried out. He cried upon his bed and he cried out to God above.
He then concluded the psalm with praise–God had heard him and received his prayer.
This reminds us that when life seems overwhelming, God is bigger. When we seem weary, God is stronger. When we feel the rush of emotions, we should pour them out to God, because he can handle them.
Let him strengthen your weary soul.
