But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them shout for joy forever. May you shelter them, and may those who love your name boast about you.

Where do you turn when your world seems to be falling apart?
David’s heart was heavy when he wrote Psalm 5. He begged God to hear his sighing (5:1). He even prayed for God to act in swift judgment against his enemies (5:9-10). To say that David was going through a rough patch would be an understatement.
Yet in the midst of the pain and confusion, David knew exactly where he should turn. He knew God’s nature. You are not a God who delights in wickedness (5:4). He believed that God would listen. In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice (5:3). He knew that God would, one day, bring justice. You destroy those who tell lies; the Lord abhors violent and treacherous people (5:6).
So, David fled to God. In prayer, he sought refuge. In prayer, he sought God’s presence. In God, he found joy and shelter.
What David found was not for him alone. No, it is for all who will flee to God.
