Honor – Psalm 2 (Psalm Saturday)

Serve the Lord with reverential awe and rejoice with trembling. Pay homage to the Son…

Psalm 2:11-12, Christian Standard Bible

Every sin, ultimately, is a rejection of God’s authority and rule.

We’re okay with Jesus being a good teacher or a moral example. But for him to be the King that we must obey? We’ve been trying to escape from under God’s authority since the Garden. Adam and Eve were tempted to be like God, and therefore no longer under God.

But God the Father has placed one true King on the throne to rule creation–his very own Son.

And here’s the thing, as much as we want to rebel and be our own authorities, thinking that will grant us true happiness, the reality is we’ll only be truly happy when we honor Jesus as King. You see, he is good. He is full of joy. He is the perfect King. Through the history of the world, we have made for very poor kings.

So, don’t rage against the Lordship of Jesus. See it for the good thing that it is. See him for the good One that he is. Revere him. Honor him. Worship him. Follow him.

Take refuge in him, for in him is life and forever-joy.
