Proverbs 11:17 (a proverb a day)

For the month of May, we’ll take a brief look at 31 wise sayings from Proverbs 11, that’s one proverb a day…

A kind man benefits himself, but a cruel person brings ruin on himself.

Proverbs 11:17, Christian Standard Bible

Kindness can go far. Some see kindness as a weakness but the Bible calls it a “fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5). Kindness is a choice to show goodness to others with a positive attitude. This is the very thing Jesus did time and time again.

He was kind to people who were treated as outcasts and counted among the dregs of society.

Being kind to others doesn’t guarantee that they’ll return kindness to you, but often it does. Even if they don’t, we should choose and pursue kindness to bring light into the dark world. We can’t control what others do, but we can control what we do. And people need to see the kindness of Jesus in us.
