Proverbs 11:7 (a proverb a day)

For the month of May, we’ll take a brief look at 31 wise sayings from Proverbs 11, that’s one proverb a day…

When the wicked person dies, his expectation comes to nothing and hope placed in wealth vanishes.

Proverbs 11:7, Christian Standard Bible

Hebrews 9:27 reminds us, “It is appointed for people to die once–and after this, judgment.”

What happens after death is one of the answers the Bible provides, and for those who choose to continue in sin over walking in the grace of Jesus, then verses like Proverbs 11:7 stand as a warning.

The most important decision we face in life is where our hope is placed. If in ourselves, our own “goodness,” or our wealth, then all hope is lost as soon as we die. If, however, our hope is placed in Jesus and his righteousness gifted to us, then Proverbs 11:7 is a mere echo in the past–we have the future expectation of eternal joy.
