For the month of May, we’ll take a brief look at 31 wise sayings from Proverbs 11, that’s one proverb a day…
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the perversity of the treacherous destroys them.
Proverbs 11:3, Christian Standard Bible
Integrity is a sense of wholeness. It is when how we think, believe, and act match up well. For the follower of Jesus, integrity first comes from trusting in Jesus. Without him we are dead and broken in sin. Through him we are made alive and whole.
The Christian life, then, becomes a journey of sanctification–growing to be more like who we are in Jesus. Through Jesus, and the Holy Spirit within, God has made us righteous new creations, his precious sons and daughters. Integrity is learning how to live as such by learning how to act more like Jesus.
When we walk in integrity, it guides us on the right path. Even if we stumble at times, Jesus leads us to stand back up and continue to follow. If we walk without Jesus, we might think we are heading some place good, but in the end we find eternal death, not life. So, let us seek wholeness. Let us walk in the way of Jesus, the way of our new life.
