Sermon Notes
A Ministry of Hope ~ Luke 4:16-20

  • Jesus came to proclaim the good news of eternal freedom and to meet people’s needs. He sends us to do the same. (4:16-22)
    • As the Father sent Jesus, so Jesus sends us (John 17:18, 20:21)
    • Our ministry must be done in God’s power (4:18)
    • Our ministry must declare the hope of God’s favor in Christ (4:18-19)
    • Our ministry must seek to meet physical needs alongside the spiritual (4:18)
  • Jesus’ ministry shows how God often works in unexpected ways. We must embrace these over any prejudices or preconceptions that we might have. (4:23-30)
    • Jesus’ focus was a freedom from sin that would extend to people from all backgrounds, not just one background (4:18-19, 23-27)
    • We should reach out to the broken, hurting, and lost in any God-honoring way we can
