The Great Love of Our Savior ~ John 13:1-20, 31-35
- The humility and love of our God (13:1-7)
- Jesus offered his followers, and even an enemy, an act of love in the face of imminent death (13:1-5)
- In this act, God in the flesh took the posture of a lowly servant (13:3-6)
- This act pointed to an even greater sacrifice: Jesus’ death for our sins (13:7)
- The cleansing we receive (13:8-11)
- Sin dirties us, so we must be cleansed by Jesus (13:8)
- We must not be like Judas Iscariot: clean on the outside yet still dirty inside (13:10-11)
- If Jesus cleanses us, then we are fully clean (13:9-10)
- Seeing the humility and love of Jesus, and being cleansed by him, we should love and serve others as he loved and served us (13:12-20, 31-35)
- If the lowliest, dirtiest task was not beneath Jesus, it should not be beneath us
- He gave us an example to follow and his love compels us outward
