The Son King ~ 2 Samuel 7
- David desired to build a house to serve as the permanent resting place for the Ark (7:1-3)
- God’s response (7:4-17)
- He never demanded this
- He is the one who chose and established David and will continue to do so
- He will give David a Son King to build his house
- David’s Prayer (7:18-29)
- Gratitude for God’s grace
- Praise for God’s greatness and work
- Plea for God to confirm his promises for his glory
- Solomon was the first fulfillment, but a greater Son was needed
- Jesus is the ultimate fulfillment
- Jesus is David’s offspring who rules forever (Luke 1:32-33)
- Jesus was disciplined for our sins (Isaiah 53:4-6)
- Jesus is the Temple who builds the temple of God (Revelation 21:22, Ephesians 2:19-22)
- Our response
- We should have gratitude for God’s grace
- We should praise God’s greatness and work
- We should plead to see God’s promises fulfilled for his glory
